MAHARASHTRA: SAMRUDDHI CORRIDOR

  • The state government’s new industrial policy has emphasised on fasttracking the second phase of Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg to create 20 industrial townships (nodes) to promote multi-sector industrial hubs.
  • The first phase of the Rs 55,000-crore corridor, a flagship project of the state government, is confined to 706-km eight-lane stretch between Nagpur and Mumbai, while the second phase is planned for development of industrial hubs.

SAMRUDDHI CORRIDOR

  • The 704km expressway will reduce the travelling time between Nagpur and Mumbai from present 15 hours to less than eight hours. Motorists will not have to stop at a single place as MSRDC will build 300 vehicular underpasses, 400 underpasses for people and cattle, and 50 flyovers.
  • The corridor will be 90 metre wide and will have six lanes. Space has been left for gas pipelines and even a high speed railway line. MSRDC will develop 24 townships along the expressway. Each of them will have top class civic amenities to house industries, offices and residences.

FUNDING

  • SBI, other banks agree to finance Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Corridor
  • SBI has agreed to lend the highest amount, Rs 8,500 crore ther lenders include Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda, Bank of Maharashtra as well as the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India
  • The corridor will have 25 toll plazas, and the toll will be collected for 40 years.

THE MAJOR LINK

  • The government has ensured that Samruddhi Mahamarg is linked to the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor and the Western Dedicated Industrial Corridor, which will help Maharashtra have direct connectivity to these corridors and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT), country’s largest container port. It would help in enhancing the Export Import Policy (EXIM) of the state.

DELHI MUMBAI INDUSTRIAL CORRIDOR (DMIC)

  • Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) is a mega infra-structure project of more than USD 90 billion with the financial & technical aids from Japan
  • Inspired by Japan’s Tokyo-Osaka industrial corridor, the project will upgrade nine mega industrial zones, three ports, six airports as well as the country’s high-speed freight line in two phases.
