UGC NET December 2018 Exam Dates, Pattern, Eligibility & Syllabus

UGC NET(University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test) December 2018: National Eligibility Test is an exam that is conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education for UGC. It is a national level exam that is conducted in June and December every year. This examination is conducted to select the best candidates who are eligible for the posts of Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).

Eligibility Criteria

UGC NET 2018 Qualifying Criteria:

  • Number of Qualified Candidates: UGC has announced that only 6% of the total candidates who will appear for UGC Net 2018 will be declared as qualified for the post of Assistant Professor.
  • Reservation Policy: Only 6% of the total candidates will get the privilege of the Reservation policy.
  • Category wise Qualified Candidates: UGC has announced that only 15% candidates from each category will be declared as qualified for the post of Assistant Professor.
  • UGC NET Eligibility Marks: Candidate are consider to apply for UGC NET exam if they are having minimum 55% marks in Master’s degree or its equivalent degree.
  • UGC NET Eligibility For OBC: UGC NET eligibility for Other Backward Candidate (OBC) who belongs to the non-creamy layer/Scheduled Caste(SC)/Scheduled Tribe(ST)/ persons with disability(PwD) category should have minimum 50% in Master’s Degree or its equivalent degree then only they are consider to apply for NET exam.

 Eligibility based on Qualification:

Minimum Percentage – Candidates should have a minimum aggregate of 55% in their Master’s Degree or equivalent degree from universities/institutions recognized by UGC.

Reserved Category – To be eligible for UGC NET 2018, the candidates belonging to reserved categories like OBC-Non Creamy Layer/SC/ST/PwD, should have completed their Master’s degree or equivalent program with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks.

PhD Candidates – Applicants holding a PhD degree and have completed their Master’s Degree by 19th September 1991 are also eligible for UGC NET 2018 with a relaxation of 5% in the aggregate marks.

Transgenders – Candidates belonging to third gender (transgender) will be eligible to get the same relaxation in fee, age and qualifying criteria for UGC NET 2018 as SC/ST/PwD categories.

Final Year Candidates – Applicants who are in the final year of Master’s degree and have appeared or will appear for the qualifying exam of Masters degree or equivalent program are also eligible for UGC NET 2018 with at least 55% marks (50% for OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PWD).

Subjects – The candidates must have passed in subjects like Humanities (including languages) and Social Science, Computer Science & Applications, Electronic Science etc.

Post Graduate Diploma Candidates Candidates having post-graduate diploma/certificate awarded by Indian University/Institute or foreign degree/diploma/certificate awarded by the foreign University/Institute should in their own interest, ascertain the equivalence of their diploma/degree/certificate with Master s degree of recognized Indian universities from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi

Note: Candidates are advised to appear in the subject of their post-graduation only.

Eligibility based on Age

UGC NET JRF EligibilityEligibility for Assistance professor will totally depend on the NET paper. Candidate will be consider as an UGC NET JRF eligible only if their aggregrate is good.

Exemption from UGC NET 2018:

Exemption from UGC NET 2018 will be given to those candidates who satisfy the following conditions:

  • SET Candidates: Candidates who clear the SET (States Eligibility Test) accredited by UGC, conducted before 1st June 2002 for Assistant Professor’s eligibility, can apply for Assistant Professor’s post anywhere across India. The candidates who have cleared SET conducted from 1st June 2002 onwards, are eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor in local Universities or Colleges.
  • NET/SLET/SET: For recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professors in Universities, Colleges, and Institutions, NET/SLET/SET will be considered as the minimum UGC NET 2018 Eligibility condition.
  • UGC/CSIR/JRF: The candidates who have a valid scorecard of the UGC/CSIR/JRF exam conducted before the year 1989 doesn’t have to write UGC NET 2018.

How To Prepare

Syllabus 

  • UGC NET Syllabus Paper 1: The UGC NET syllabus paper 1 is designed in such a way that it will test the candidate’s teaching and research ability of the candidate.
  • UGC NET Paper 2 Syllabus: Paper 2 will be subject based. A total of 100 subjects will be covered in the UGC NET Exam . Candidates will have to select one subject for the NET Exam preferably the subject of their post-graduation.

*  –  The candidates with Master’s Degree in Geography (with specialization in Population Studies) or Mathematics/ Statistics are also eligible to appear in the subject “Population Studies” (Code 15).

** – The candidates with Master’s Degree in Humanities (including languages) and Social Sciences are eligible to appear in the subject “Women Studies” (Code 74).

Cut Off

Cutoff Declaration Process comprises of following steps –

Step I: Minimum marks to be obtained in NET for considering a candidate for the award of JRF and eligibility for Assistant Professor:

The candidates are required to obtain minimum marks separately in Paper-I and Paper-II as given below:

Step II: Amongst those candidates who have cleared step I, a merit list will be prepared subject-wise and category-wiseusing the aggregate marks of all the three papers secured by such candidates.

Step III: Top 6% candidates (for each subject and category), from the merit list mentioned under step II, will be declared NET qualified for eligibility for Assistant Professor only.

Step IV: A separate merit list for the award of JRF will be prepared from amongst the NET qualified candidates figuring in the merit list prepared under step III by using the formula mentioned below:-

Salary offered
