UPSC CMS Exam Eligibility 2023

UPSC CMS Eligibility Criteria require the eligibility of mentioned education qualification, age limit and nationality as a criterion. Candidates must have done Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from a recognised university.

  • Generally, a candidate should not be above 32 years (as on 1st August 2023).
  • Candidate applying for this exam is a Medical Officer Grade in General Duty or Medical Officers Sub-cadre of Central Health Services, he/she should not be more than 35 years on the cut-off date.
Educational Qualification Required
  • Students who are MBBS and has been cleared the written and practical parts of the final examination of a Doctorate.
  • Candidates are also eligible to apply those who have appeared or will appear in the final MBBS examination.
  • Although, the candidates will be appointed only after completing the rotating internship.
Physical as well as Medical Fitness As per Appendix III to the Rules of the UPSC CMS Examination, candidates must be physically and medically fit for the Combined Medical Services Examination in 2023.
Nationality of the Candidates
  1. A citizen of India,
  2. A subject of Nepal/Bhutan
  3. A Tibetan Refugee who migrated to India with the intention of permanent settlement before 1st January 1962.
  4. A person of Indian origin who has migrated to India with permanent settlement intention from one of the following countries:
  • Pakistan
  • Burma
  • Sri Lanka
  • Kenya
  • Uganda
  • the United Republic of Tanzania
  • Zambia
  • Malawi
  • Zaire
  • Ethiopia
  • Vietnam

The candidates from 2, 3 and 4 categories must, however, submit an eligibility certificate issued by the government.

UPSC CMS Age Relaxation

For the unreserved category candidate, the number of times they can apply is 6 times for the UPSC CMS examination. The OBC candidate can give this examination 7 times and the SC/ST candidate can appear an unlimited number of times (up to 37 years of age). The age relaxation has been discussed below:
