UPSC IFS Eligibility Criteria

The Union Public Service Commission conducts an annual exam of forest service for hiring eligible candidates. Although some UPSC IFS Eligibility Criteria are the same for both UPSC IAS and IFS exam, but there are different criteria also. UPSC IFS Eligibility Criteria 2023

Candidates first needs to verify to find out if you meet all the eligibility conditions before you start filling out the paperwork. For your convenience, we have listed them in a summary, but you can always check the official notification for the full details.

UPSC IFS Age Limit

On August 1, 2020, the year of the exam, candidates must be at least 21 years old and no older than 32. This means that the candidate’s birthdate cannot be earlier than August 2, 1988, nor later than August 1, 1999. There is, however, some age relaxation for the reserved categories, which is covered below:

UPSC IFS Educational Criteria

Candidates must have the given educational requirements in order to be considered for IFS. Only graduates in the following fields may submit applications:

  • Botany
  • Chemistry
  • Geology
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Statistics
  • Zoology, or
  • Graduation degree in Agriculture or Forestry or engineering

Candidates who are taking any of the required subjects for their degree test are also eligible to apply for the exam. However, in order to be qualified for the following level if they pass the preliminary exams, they must include the information about passing the test in the application form.

UPSC IFS Number of Attempts

Before applying, one should keep in mind this additional condition. You are only allowed to apply for the exam a certain number of times, therefore each time you fail the exam, one attempt is forfeited. Following are the maximum tries that candidates may make:

UPSC IFS Physical Requirement

Candidates must meet minimum weight and height standards as well as pass a physical fitness test in order to be included on the final merit list.

UPSC IFS Nationality

Candidates giving the must also be coming under the eligibility criteria of nationality

  • The candidate needs to be an Indian national,
  • Tibetan refugees who entered India prior to January 1, 1962, with the aim of remaining there permanently.
  • During the hiring process, every applicant—aside from Indian citizens—produces an eligibility certificate given by the Indian government.
