India will celebrate its 77th Independence Day on 15th August 2023 throughout the country with the theme of “Nation First Always First”. The day is extremely significant since, after nearly 200 years of British rule, India gained its independence on August 15, 1947. It has also been argued that if we take August 15, 1948, the inaugural Independence Day celebration then India will be celebrating its 76th anniversary of independence.

Is it India’s 76th or 77th Independence Day?

India after achieving freedom on 15th August 1947, the first post-Independence, Independence Day of India was celebrated nationwide on 15th August 1948 hence with this fact, we will be celebrating the 76th Independence Day in 2023, which was achieved after a long struggle with the mighty British empire which came to India as a trading company.

On the other hand, if we calculate India’s Independence from 15th August 1947, which means that the year 1947 will be taken as the first year of India’s Independence Day. Due to this reason the year 2023 will be celebrated as 77th Independence Day 2023.

Theme of Independence Day 2023

“Nation First, Always First” is the theme of the Independence Day 2023 celebration in India. The government has decided to organise various events within the framework of events belonging to the “Azadi ka Amrit Mohatsav” initiative. To acknowledge the many cultures and diversity of this nation, the government will organize a number of programs.

How Independence Day 2023 will be Celebrated?

The Independence Day 2023 of India will be celebrated under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Through joint initiatives and global outreach, the campaign hopes to strengthen this people’s movement even more. Additionally, this year’s Independence Day will signal the conclusion of Amrit Mahtosav’s 75-week countdown, which started on March 12, 2021.

The Indian Prime Minister will raise the flag at the Red Fort in New Delhi, as he does every year. The tricolour of the Indian flag—saffron, white, and green—is displayed on governmental structures, educational institutions, and public spaces. Independence Day 2023: History

When British forces destroyed the last Nawab of Bengal at the Battle of Plassey in 1757, British control over India officially began. Then, in 1857, the futile First War of Independence, often known as the Indian Rebellion or Revolt of 1857, occurred. Indian activists desired self-rule or Swaraj after World War I ended in 1918. The Indian National Congress, India’s first political party, was founded in 1885.

The Indian National Congress then declared “Purna Swaraj” or “Complete Independence.” The Indian Parliament met in Lahore in 1929. Lord Mountbatten finally agreed to the suggestion after numerous discussions and meetings between the British government and the Indian Parliament.

India celebrated its first Independence Day in 1947 when Lord Mountbatten partitioned British India into the two newly independent states of India and Pakistan.
